How to go to Zoo Negara (National Zoo) from KL Sentral
Planning to go to Zoo Negara to see the Giant Pandas and their new baby cub over the school holidays? There are three ways to go to Zoo Negara (National Zoo) from KL Sentral:
- TAXI: Take Taxi from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara ~ RM24 to RM37
- LRT: Take Rapid KL LRT to Wangsa Maju Station and then take Taxi to Zoo Negara ~ RM11 to RM15
- BUS: Take Rapid KL LRT to Pasar Seni Station and then take Bus to Zoo Negara ~ RM10 to RM 14.

Taxi from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara (National Zoo)
From Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral), the fastest and most convenient way to go to Zoo Negara is Taxi. It is also very cheap especially if you have 3 to 4 people going together in one taxi. The taxi fare is approximately RM24 to RM37, depending on traffic condition because the taxi meter is running based on time too. If you want fixed price regardless of traffic condition, you can buy a taxi coupon from the taxi counter. The price will be somewhere in between.
If this is too expensive for you, the next cheaper way to go to Zoo Negara (the Malay word for National Zoo) is by using the Rapid KL LRT.
LRT from KL Sentral to National Zoo Malaysia (Zoo Negara)
Rapid KL LRT does not reach Zoo Negara directly. However, you can take LRT Kelana Jaya Line from KL Sentral to Wangsa Maju Station which is very near to Zoo Negara. Then, take a short taxi ride to from Wangsa Maju Station to Zoo Negara.
From KL Sentral Station, take Rapid KL LRT Kelana Jaya Line towards Gombak direction. The LRT ticket fare is RM2.30 per person (RM3.20 from 2 December 2015). Get off at Wangsa Maju Station. Then take a taxi from Wangsa Maju Station to Zoo Negara. The taxi fare is about RM8 to RM12 depending on the traffic condition at that time. The total transportation expenses is about RM15 including both LRT and taxi. If you are travelling alone, you can save half the price compared to taking taxi direct from KL Sentral to the National Zoo to see the giant pandas and the cub.
Bus from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara (National Zoo)
The cheapest but slowest way to commute from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara is by taking Metrobus no. 16 from Pasar Seni. To take this bus to Zoo Negara, you first need to take LRT from KL Sentral to Pasar Seni LRT Station, which is only one station away from KL Sentral.
To take LRT to Pasar Seni, first of all take the Kelana Jaya Line LRT in the Gombak direction and get off at the next station which is Pasar Seni Station (only 1 station away). The LRT ticket fare is RM1 (revised to RM1.30 from 2 December 2015). Then, take Metrobus No. 16 at Pasar Seni bus station to go to Zoo Negara. The total cost for this transportation option to Zoo Negara is the cheapest (less than RM5). However, the travel time can be a lot longer because of bus waiting time.

If you are travelling in a group with family and friends, taxi is still the most convenient and worthwhile way to go from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara (Malaysia National Zoo). If you want to safe money, take the LRT to Wangsa Maju Station before taking taxi to Zoo Negara. You can safe the cost by about half. Finally, the cheapest option is to use LRT and bus (no taxi). For that, you have to first take LRT from KL Sentral to Pasar Seni and then take Metrobus 16 from Pasar Seni to Zoo Negara. This is the cheapest but most time consuming way to go from KL Sentral to Zoo Negara.
